Club Activities

Saturday afternoons (Harabee) are when the majority of the members come together to participate in the Club activities. Officially the Club does not start until 1:30pm and conclude at 3:30pm. However, many children arrive early and leave late. The majority of our activities occur during this time.

Those activities include:

Instructions in Character Building
The children are gathered in age appropriate groups. I.E., 4 – 5 year olds, 6 – 7 year olds, 8 – 9 year olds, 10 – 12 year olds, 13 – 17 year olds and all children 10 and older are segregated into all female or male groups. Teachers are prepared to teach their classes a relevant lesson on faith, character and citizenship building.

High Profile Speakers
We invite individuals recognized in the community as having achieved a measure of success in the public arena and are particularly relevant to the youth to share their stories. We want them to see individuals who did not necessarily have it easy but through focused hard work, consistency and some inspiration became successful.

Bear Cave (Rewards and Recognition)
The Bear Cave is a kid’s store. It is stocked with age-appropriate toys, games and gifts. The youth earn “Bear Bucks” by participating in group activities, making good grades in school or improving their grades, following directions, demonstrating good decision making skills, etc. The “Bear Bucks” are then redeemed in the Bear Cave.

Meal Time
The kids are served a hearty brown bag lunch in mid afternoon. Its not unusual for them to ask for seconds. We have found the meals to be very important to the kids. If they are not able to go to the Bear Cave on a particular day, they are ok, if they know they are going to be feed.

Summer Youth Camps

Field Trips

Weekly Sports
Part of the benefit of being located on a former school campus is the facilities. One of the favorite activities is playing basketball and other sports inside a regulation gymnasium.

Mothers’ Conferences
We conduct semiannual conferences with special speakers for the mothers of the youth. These conferences are designed to equip and encourage the single mothers through teaching parenting and life skills. After attending a conference, one of the attendees was heard saying “… I’m so encouraged now, I feel like I can make it with my five kids.”
